Video Transcript

Hi, I'm Dr. Kovak. I'm the owner of Idaho Foot and Ankle Center, based in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
I'm Dr. Ericson, a doctor of podiatric medicine here at Idaho Foot and Ankle Center.

For me, it all started with my grandpa. He had severe diabetes and ended up losing both of his legs. He didn’t live in this country, and where he was, the care just wasn’t the best. Knowing what I know now and seeing the treatment he received, he probably could have done a lot better with proper care. That experience really pushed me and motivated me to seek out the best care possible for my patients and to help prevent the complications he went through.

I was serving a church mission in the Philippines, and while I was there, I met a group of doctors who were repairing cleft palates and clubfeet. That experience sparked my interest in podiatry. Later, in college, I became friends with several people going into podiatry, looked further into the field, and really fell in love with the practice—the ability to build relationships with patients and the surgical aspect of podiatry.

We try to give every patient an experience they can’t get anywhere else.
Dr. Kovak and I are able to build strong relationships with our patients. When people come here, it's more than a doctor–patient interaction; it becomes a friendship. As we continue to treat patients and they send us their families, children, and relatives, it becomes a family experience for us.

Part of that experience is offering a true one-stop shop. When patients come here, they have everything they need in one location—from physical therapy to laser treatments to an in-house store with foot products, ice packs, crutches, knee scooters, and all the dressing supplies needed for surgery and recovery.

Idaho Foot and Ankle Center provides a wide variety of services. We perform all the surgical procedures we’re trained to do—from ankle fractures to hammertoe repair. Some of the most common conditions we treat are heel pain and plantar fasciitis. We also address foot deformities such as bunions, and Dr. Erikson and I are highly trained in the Lapiplasty® 3D bunion correction technique. We’ve performed more Lapiplasty surgeries than anyone in this part of the country.

We also perform many in-office procedures, including treatments for skin conditions like warts and calluses, and nail procedures such as ingrown toenail removals—often without needing the operating room.

I have also been trained to treat clubfoot in newborns using the Ponseti method. When babies come in shortly after birth, we cast their feet weekly to correct the deformity, achieving excellent outcomes without surgery.

We continually try to offer new and innovative treatments to give people real solutions to their foot and ankle problems.
